Hi, my name's Alex and I work as a Sports Scientist/Physical Preperation Coach at a Premier League football club's academy.

In regards to Sports Science, we are really behind, and I've been slowly trying my best to implement any system at minimal cost (Read: "Free") in any way possible.
I've also been looking at doing biomechanical/motion analysis, and thus why I'm so interested in the open-source software that is kinevoa (great job by everyone involved, honestly).

For those that aren't aware, Microsoft's Kinect camera has been on sale for a few months, and MS have been kind enough (or purposely turned a blind eye to) all the hackers using kinect for it's own purposes, even releasing the drivers needed for the kinect camera.

My question is, I'm looking at way to make kinovea work with the kinect cameras ("Kinectvea?")?
Here's some basic examples of its hacked use:

The kinect camera gives some possibly great advantages; 3D motion capture, skeletal tracking, possibility of using multiple cameras (at least 2 anyways) and it's price. Also, further enhancements of it's abilities via firmwire updates in the future.

The downside I've come across so far is, 1. 30FPS (so no high-frame capture....yet) and a 640x480 resolution (MS are said to be planning an update that should triple that at least).

Anyone?

No one?

Hi,
It is a very interesting piece of technology, and every experiment is welcome !
Personally, I feel I don't have the time to fully dive into this, considering the ammount of tasks already on the todo list. But if any one is interested please experiment ! Report your findings, brainstorm about how it could be used, etc.

Thank you for the reply.
Probably the easiest thing to do would be to possibly use it as a webcam.

Alas, I do not have the skills to look into this. Wish I did though, as it is an interesting concept.

It looks like they have a Windows driver for the Kinect at codelaboratories.
Can you or someone with a Kinect try this in the experimental version and report the result ?
(I'm not too sure that it's a DirectShow driver ?)
Thanks

Haven't got my Kinect anymore (gave it away!). But hopefully someone else can give it a try.

I might give this a try.  The following link shows just some of the possibilities with the Kinect for marker-less tracking.  It is a complicated instrument but a lot of folks are hacking it so there are drivers, middleware, and applications available.

I'm not sure if it has the precision needed.
