One of the latter features I particularly like is the overlay feature. I am a Tenpin Bowling coach on limited resources so cannot afford the offering from one of the main Tenpin manufacturers. It has the overlay feature but displays as one screen instead of both, and you can vary which video is more prominant. Are these latter features what you have been thinking of for the aligned merge?

Well, I think it would be straightforward to implement, but the main issue is one of user interface. Where to place the slider governing which image is more prominent? in a new window, directly on the common controls bar, on right click somewhere? Not sure which option is best and doesn't get in the way of users not using it.
Maybe it could be dynamically added to the bar only when the superposition is active…

Not really. The goal of this feature is to merge both athletes on a common background (despite camera motion if any).
Actually bowling filmed from behind is one of the few sports for which the feature may not work well because the athletes doesn't move much relatively to the background. (similarly, golf and archery probably). This is because large parts of the background will never be visible…

Joan, thanks for your reply. I am still using the superposition to compare athletes from earlier sessions, playing different areas of the lane etc, from the same videoing position. If the output of superposition was for a single screen then there would be room to add a slider to change the most prominant.

Having thought about superposition my preference would be to only have one screen and so only one set of controls. I would have already aligned the videos to be starting at the correct place and be the same length, therefore only one screen required.
