Hallo,

Wie zou mij kunnen helpen? Ik neem met mijn DVD recorder van de televisie een sportprogramma op. Deze brand ik direct op een DVD RW. Deze DVD wil ik gebruiken om met het programma Kinovia  de film te bewerken. Als voetbaltrainer wil ik de film kunnen analyseren, bijvoorbeeld een aantal corners of vrije trappen. Op de DVD staat Video-TS en wanneer ik deze open dan zie ik bijv.
Video TS info DVD film, DVD film, Backup-bestand van de ifo, VTS_01_01, enz. Ik zie ook dat VTS_01_01 ongeveer 0,99GB is. Dat zegt mij dat het ongeveer 15 minuten film moet zijn met een hoge kwaliteit. Lees ik deze file in in het programma Kinovia dan geeft het aan dat een aantal frames geladen worden en staat boven in beeld dat ik VTS_01_01.VOB heb geladen. Wil ik de film met Kinovia afspelen dan speelt maar 7 seconden film af. Wat doe ik fout??
Moet ik het bestand VOB converteren, zoja met welk programma en in welke extentie.

So, you record TV directly to DVD and then reopen the VOB file in Kinovea. Unfortunately, the duration of the movie seen by Kinovea is shorter than what you have recorded.

I have experienced this aswell with a commercial DVD, and someone opened bug m142 which I think is related.
I'll look into it further…

In the meantime, you can try to convert to another file format, I generally use HandBrake for this, but other converters should work. Output format might be AVI or MKV (for example in HandBrake, using the "film" preset), or others, if it can read all the input there shouldn't be any issue.
However this is a lenghty process so it's not a satisfying solution, I hope I can understand what the problem is.

Is it systematic or happens only sometimes ?
What if you record a very small sample of 2 or 3 seconds, does it work or not ?

Hoi Kasper,

Je probleem is bekend, want sommige DVD-recorders hebben een andere format dan die van de normale VOB files van een DVD. Je dient deze om te zetten naar een ander bestandsformaat ofwel AVI, MPG, WMV, etc. Deze zijn wel in te lezen in Kinovea.

Hi Joan,

I have reported such earlier too, that some DVD-recorders have a different VOB-format which gives a small duration of the video in Kinovea, while a longer footage is recorded. To prevent problems I always convert these with AVS into another format. Then it works well.
My problem occurs with Philips Harddisk recorder and then burning the video to DVD.

I'm not too sure of how to approach this issue…

Would you be able to send me a small sample VOB file that exposes the problem ?
Maybe we can detect the specific encoding used and make a special case for it and compute duration in a different manner…
