The following multimedia containers are supported :
AVI, MPG, MOV, WMV, MP4, FLV, 3GP, MKV, VOB, MOD, TOD.
Numerous compression algorithms are supported, including DV, DivX, Xvid, H.264, MJPEG, Theora…
Most HD formats are supported but support for AVCHD is only partial.
Some functions of Kinovea like synchronizing two videos can become hard to use with large images.
In those cases, it is advised to reduce selection to the minimum possible and voluntarily decrease speed.
For live capture, the camcorder must be capable of live streaming to the computer. (HDV, DV, Webcam, Network camera).
If the camcorder is not capable of live streaming, you will have to use an analog output on the camcorder (HDMI output or S-Video for example), and a corresponding input card or device at the computer.
Check Capturing live video
For playback and video analysis, most camcorders create video files that are supported in Kinovea. Some camcorders recording AVCHD to hard drive or flash memory are known to produce files that are only partially supported. In those case you may have to convert the files prior to use.
This happens when Kinovea detects it cannot extract images from the video fast enough to keep up the frame rate asked.
The speed stabilize itself at a sustainable threshold. However it is advised to decrease it manually again to get a smoother playback.
